Dr Simon Cuthbert

I’m a geologist with a wide range of interests ranging from the origin of mountain ranges to exploration for industrial resources. I gained my BSc and PhD degrees in geology from the University of Sheffield where, in addition to earthly preoccupations, I developed a fascination with planetary science that continues to inspire me. After three years in the oil industry and a postdoctoral fellowship at Glasgow University I moved to Paisley College of Technology, now UWS, where I was a lecturer for 30 years, but I’m now a part time researcher in geodynamics at AGH University of Science & Technology in Krakow, Poland and a short course tutor at Glasgow University. I believe that the nexus of geology and astronomy is fertile ground, revealing the vast range of possible worlds and making us keep a more open mind about how our own planet works.
