Tonight Carlton will describe why we think there is dark energy in the Universe

and how we can use maps of galaxies to understand more about

the dark energy. He will review the ways in which cosmic cartography

has evolved over the years.

About the speaker: Prof. Carlton Baugh

I am a professor in the Department of Physics at Durham University. I am a member of the Institute for Computational Cosmology.

My research interests include modelling the physics of galaxy formation and devising new ways to measure dark energy using the large-scale structure of the Universe. I am member of the Euclid Consortium, the European Space Agency's Dark Energy Mission, responsible for producing mock catalogues.

I am the project scientist of two Framework Program 7 Marie Curie Projects, theCosmoComp Initial Training Network and the LACEGAL International Research Staff Exchange Scheme.

I am part of the ICC's team selected to exhibit Cosmology in Crisis: What is the Matter? at the Royal Society's Summer Science Exhibition, 1st-7th July 2013 and in Newcastle at theBritish Science Festival, 7th-12th September 2013.

Location SBC, Meeting Room, Swinton Bottom Club (Formerly Swinton WMC)
