Frequently encountered terms in amateur solar Astronomy
Thursday, 16th August 2018 (19:45 - 22:00)
I am going to do the talk on "Solar Terminology". I will be discussion all the solar terms that we as amateur astronomers will likely use and are likely to encounter ( for example what is a filament in H-Alpha and how is it different to a filament in white light, what is an emergence flux etc). I will also show some of my own images to explain these terms. With us being at solar minimum I thought I would do a solar talk but a bit different to just observing and imaging it.
I hope you all enjoy it.
Speaker: Mick Nicholls
I began visually observing the night sky in 1976. I am interested in all objects in the sky especially solar system objects, deep space and the Sun. I began astrophotography in 1996 when I joined Mexborough And Swinton Astronomical Society, a very friendly, excellent and forward looking society with members from all ages and knowledge and interests.
