Speaker: Prof. Philippa Browning

Prof Philippa Browning studied Mathematics at Cambridge and then a Ph.D. at the University of St Andrews. She became a lecturer at UMIST which merged with the University of Manchester in 2004. She is now a Professor of Astrophysics at the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Manchester, where the Professor does a range of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as well as research. Her research is into the interaction of plasma with magnetic fields in the atmosphere of the Sun, especially solar flares. She also has research interests in magnetically-confined fusion power.
