Terrestrial Planets a Comparative Planetology

Society Meeting

Thursday, 19th May 2016 (19:45 - 22:00)

Venue: swmcmeet

Peter's talk will be consist of four parts:

I .GEOLOGICAL PROCESSES

In this section, we are going to discuss the various processes affecting the terrestrial planets as a whole. There are a variety of processes and these shall be individually considered how they affect the terrestrial planets (considering the Moon as well).

II: THE TERRESTRIAL PLANETS: WORLDS IN THEIR OWN RIGHT

Brief portraits of the terrestrial planets.

III: GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE BEARS

How 'Goldilocks and the three bears' have had an impact on planetary evolution. If we had a time machine and went back billions of years, we might see the surprising sight of 'three Earths' forming before each went down upon its different evolutionary path.

IV: THE FUTURE: TERRAFORMING

Taking a huge step into the future, what if we wanted to “repair” our sister worlds. That is, make them more Earth-like?
We consider Venus, the Moon, and Mars

Speaker: Peter Jalowiczor

Peter Jalowiczor is an amateur astronomer living in Rotherham. He is primarily known for co-discovering four exoplanets at home using data released to the public by the University of California's Lick-Carnegie Planet Search Team. At University he completed research confirming that k=2 (the delta effect) for comets from work on Halley's Comet. Since 2017 he has been involved in research on brown dwarfs - objects between exoplanets and stars.

He has had four books published: two about football and two about WWII. He is also the founder of a football club, known as the Polish Millers. Registered in the Polish Football league.
