Planets and Pulsators
Guest Speaker
Thursday, 6th August 2026 (19:45 - 22:00)
Venue: Hybrid
Explore two of the most unusual and fascinating frontiers in modern astronomy in Planets and Pulsators, presented by Simon Ebo. This talk delves into the exotic worlds of planets orbiting some of the most extreme objects in the universe—dead neutron stars, also known as pulsars—as well as the complex interactions between planets and pulsating (variable) stars. These systems challenge our understanding of how planets form, evolve, and survive in environments far removed from anything in our own Solar System. Simon will guide us through the science behind these extraordinary discoveries, highlighting what they reveal about planetary systems under extreme conditions and how astronomers detect and study them. A must-see talk for anyone curious about the stranger side of the cosmos and the surprising places planets can exist.
