Solar Filters & Construction

Members only

Thursday, 4th June 2026 (19:45 - 22:00)

Venue: Hybrid

Interested in observing the Sun safely without breaking the bank? This practical Members Night focuses on Solar Filters & Construction—giving you the knowledge and confidence to build or choose your own solar observing setup. We’ll explore the different types of solar filters available, including white light and hydrogen-alpha options, and explain how they work to protect your eyes and equipment. The session will also cover safe methods for constructing your own solar filters, what materials to use, and—crucially—what to avoid. Whether you're completely new to solar observing or looking to upgrade your current setup, this is a hands-on, informative evening where members can share experiences, tips, and even their own DIY builds. Bring along your questions - and if you’ve built your own filter, even better!
