Solar Observing

Community Access Event

Sunday, 3rd August 2025 (11:00 - 15:00)

Venue: The J.A. Jones Hoober Observatory

Experience the Thrill of Summer Solar Viewing!

Join us this Sunday 11:00 till 15:00 for an unforgettable opportunity to safely observe our closest star — the Sun!

Our observatory will be open to the public, offering live views of the Sun through our state-of-the-art 60mm Hydrogen-Alpha filtered solar telescope. Witness solar flares, prominences, and sunspots in stunning detail, all in broad daylight!

Did you know? The Sun is over 100 times wider than Earth — and you can see its dynamic surface with your own eyes (safely, of course).

Important Info:

Free entry – Donations welcome

No booking needed – Just drop in

Safety first – Never view the Sun without proper solar filters

 Weather-dependent – If it’s cloudy, we won’t open

Don’t miss this chance to discover the wonders of our celestial neighbour in a whole new light!
