Many Variations on the Theme of the Astronomical Telescope!

Almost every amateur astronomer has a telescope. Yet many may not realise the sheer variety of ‘scopes designed and in use for both amateurs and professionals. In this talk, we explore many of these, from the earliest explorations into optics to the latest wonderful designs, via some somewhat eccentric diversions!

Mike Cully

Mike is a chartered and occupational psychologist and coach, working particularly with stress and resilience. He has been passionate about astronomy since he was very young – probably triggered by the excitement of the then current Space Race!

He is chairman of the Castle Point Astronomy Club, and also ran the Southend Planetarium – a small public planetarium within the Southend Museum - for 25 years, during which time he delivered thousands of talks to public and groups of all ages.

Subsequently, he ran a mobile planetarium, and now run school workshops, mostly for KS1 and 2, for schools throughout the East of England.

He also run science workshops for adults – my website is at www.sciencehorizons.co.uk
