Speaker: Dr. Steve Barrett

Dr. Steve Barrett is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Liverpool's Department of Physics. His research has focused on imaging and spectroscopy applications in domains such as nanoscience, geomaterials, biomedical imaging, and infrared spectroscopy. He is a specialist in picture processing and analysis, and he has developed image analysis software that is utilised by scholars all around the world. His undergraduate teaching has covered a wide range of disciplines, including supervising astrophysics students on astronomical field visits to Tenerife's Teide Observatory. His fascination with astronomy precedes his employment as a physicist. He has presented hundreds of astronomy speeches to astronomical organisations, special interest groups, and schools, with over 20,000 individuals in attendance. As a result of giving these outreach talks, he was awarded the Sir Patrick Moore Prize in 2019 by the British Astronomical Association.
