Astronomy From the African Veld.

Guest Speaker

Thursday, 6th January 2022 (19:45 - 22:00)

Venue: Virtual Meeting

Tonight I will discuss my journey and my experiences stargazing in the African bushveld.   Or I will  discuss some of the objects visible from the southern hemisphere.  Depending on weather (we are moving into our summer now which is our rainy season) and wifi connectivity at the time, I could try and show some live photos through our telescope?

Speaker: Ben Coley

I am a UK citizen but have been living in SA for around 15 years now.  I worked as a field guide in the safari industry and whilst I still do occasional guiding work, I run an astrotourism company on a full-time basis (although our summer weather makes it rather seasonal in nature).  We offer visual evenings or 'Night Sky Safaris', astrophotography tuition, and guide training for the lodges.  We also do some virtual stargazing with a Nikon DSLR attached to our Meade LX200 10" OTA and Celestron CGEM-DX EQ mount.
