Eyes on the Sky by Ian Hargraves FRAS

This talk reviews astronomical history from ancient Greece to the modern day. It features some of the Giants of Astronomy who furthered our knowledge of cosmology by ‘Standing on the shoulders of Giants before them” and takes a look at their observational equipment. It also highlights some unsung heroes, without whom we could not have developed our current understanding of the universe.

Speaker: Ian Hargraves

Ian first became interested in astronomy when he witnessed a huge fireball on Christmas Eve 1965 and wondered what he had just witnessed. After a search lasting over 50 years, he finally tracked it down to have been the Barwell Meteorite that landed north of Coventry.

Ian Hargraves is a STEM Ambassador and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society in 2021 for his astronomical work in the community. He is currently Chairman of the Mid-Kent Astronomical Society.
