I’ll describe some of the developments in infrared techniques, and facilities, and the discovery of some of the most luminous and extreme galaxies that have existed using them.

I’m “Professor of Observational Astronomy” at the University of Leicester. From Liverpool, then spent 13 years in Cambridge, and ten years at Caltech in Pasadena, California.  

I’ve worked on a variety of problems in astrophysics, mainly associated with infrared work, including with the JCMT telescope in Hawaii, the Spitzer Space Telescope, the WISE all-sky survey in 2010, the Herschel Space Observatory, and ALMA.
