Our Hosts: The Mexborough & Swinton Astronomical Society was formed in 1978, the MSAS serves amateur astronomers in the surrounding area covering Swinton, Mexborough, Rotherham and the Dearne Valley. We welcome anyone interested in astronomy. Members come from all walks of life and range from beginners just starting out to experienced amateurs with a wealth of knowledge. Members have varied interests including Astro Photography, Solar, lunar and planetary observing. Not all members are active observers, and the society caters equally well for the armchair or internet astronomer. We have our own Observatory at Lee Brook Lane, Hoober, Wentworth where we regularly hold Public Viewing Evenings. We maintain close ties with other local charities in particular the RSPB at the Old moor reserve Manvers where we hold several events through the year. Other local observing events include Thrybergh Country Park, Clifton Park, Rotherham and Boston Castle, Moorgate, Rotherham. Full detailed directions and map can be found on the BAA web site
